sofa or sectional

Whether you’re a sofa person or a sectional lover, like myself, this is likely the piece of furniture in your home that will be the most used. SPLURGE ON IT. Now listen, I’m not saying you have to spend tens of thousands on it, but if the choice is between waiting until you can afford something of quality or quickly buying something cheap. Just wait! Investing in quality furniture will save you TONS in the end. It will last longer and you will be happier with your purchase.

accent furniture

Accent furniture, chairs or benches/ottomans, for me personally is a save category.  If this is not furniture that will see regular use like your sofa then in my opinion you can save on this. Not to say it is not still important to get non-disposable pieces, they just don’t have to be as high of quality as something getting regular use.

rugs

Rugs are another 50/50 splurge vs. save category. Rugs can be viewed two ways; either simply a floor covering that is soft under foot or as art on the floor. Art on the floor in the form of a vintage Turkish Oushak is certainly a splurge, but it can also create a truly one-of-a-kind design. The one thing that really matters to me when purchasing rugs for my clients is the rug fiber content. If it’s not 100% wool then at least the majority of the fiber needs to be wool. Wool is easy to clean, durable, and will stand the test of time. Wool rugs come in a range of prices based on their construction, design, size, and brand. Just like lighting the bigger the room the bigger the rug which will inevitably increase the price.

art

Life is short, buy the art. Investing in original art will always be a pillar of mine. If something inspires you and pulls on your soul why wouldn’t you want to see it every day. HOWEVER, I know that budgetary restrictions are real and I will always work with clients to decorate their homes within their budgets. Splurging on a small piece of original art framed large can make a huge impact. Framed prints and printed canvases can be placed throughout the home as your build your art collection throughout the years.

casegoods

Whether it be your nightstands, living room media stand, or entry storage your casegoods are not a place to try to save a buck. Quality construction and craftsmanship are critical when purchasing casegoods. There can be nothing worse than sticking drawers or doors that won’t stay shut.
