Making Bold Design Choices in Your Home

When you think about bold design, what comes to mind? A bright pink kitchen? Wallpapered ceilings? Maybe it feels exciting… or maybe it feels overwhelming.

At Lovelace Studios, we believe bold choices aren’t about following trends or designing for someone else’s approval. They’re about creating spaces that feel right for you—spaces that make you happy every single day.

What Does “Timeless” Even Mean?

People often ask me how to make sure their (bold) design choices are timeless. My honest answer? I don’t design with timelessness in mind the way magazines talk about it. To me, timeless isn’t a look or a brand. It’s whatever makes you happy for years to come.

I’m not trying to design something trendy for Instagram. I want every project to reflect my client’s taste, their life, and what they want to wake up to every morning. That’s what timeless really is.

Bold Choices That Make an Impact

A recent project we just wrapped really pushed me to be even bolder. Every decision felt big and exciting—from rich teal cabinetry to tiger-print ceilings. And the upcoming Vesta Home Show project is doing the same. Without a client dictating limitations, the sky’s been the limit creatively, and it’s shown me how much beauty there is in going all in.

These projects have made me excited to bring more bold design to future clients. I want them to see that color, texture, and unexpected moments aren’t scary—they’re what make a home feel alive.

Tips for Bringing Bold Design Into Your Own Home

  • Start Small: If you’re nervous, don’t dive in headfirst. Try a bold paint color in a powder bath. Buy a funky chair or small piece of furniture. Even something as simple as buying a yard of fabric and sitting with it for a month can help you ease into what feels right.

  • Balance With Neutrals: Going bold doesn’t mean every surface needs to scream color. Balance is key. In many designs, I’ll keep cabinetry neutral and bring in bold accents through paint, wallpaper, or art. It keeps the space feeling cohesive while still honoring what you love.

  • Use Wallpaper Strategically: Wallpaper is one of my favorite ways to add personality to a space. You don’t have to cover an entire room—try the ceiling, a single accent wall, or even the back of built-ins for an unexpected moment. In one project, a floral ceiling wallpaper sparked the entire design for the laundry room.

Bold Trends I’m Loving Right Now

Lately, I’ve been drawn to stone trends:

  • Floating stone vanities: Sleek, sculptural, and unexpected in bathrooms.

  • Natural stones with intricate veining: Instead of big, dramatic veins, I love tone-on-tone stone with small, intricate patterns that feel layered and organic.

  • Unique stone selections: Beyond what’s typical in the market, finding funky natural stones can add so much depth to a design.

Bringing Bold Into My Own Home

My own home has been a place to practice what I preach. It’s tempting to keep everything white when it’s your first house, but adding color and pattern has made it feel like me.

One of my favorite decisions? Designing my daughter’s nursery. I went bold with a retro-inspired wallpaper on the ceiling—a choice that felt a little scary at first but now makes the entire room feel playful and unique. Every time I walk in, it brings me so much joy.

And yes, I also have a pink cabinet in our home. It’s small choices like these that remind me your home should reflect you—not just what’s trending.

Final Thoughts

Bold choices don’t have to feel intimidating. Whether it’s a bright ceiling, playful wallpaper, or your favorite color on the cabinets, design should reflect you—your style, your routines, your story.
